Our Projects

Picture
In January 2016 a multi-disciplinary team of professionals came to Crystal River.  This team spent several days reviewing our community, meeting with business owners, visitors and residents.  Their report helped us create the BIG PICTURE vision for our community.  We will receive ongoing guidance, training and technical expertise from Florida Main Street that will help us restore Crystal River to it's former glory and help us make our city all that it can be.
2019 Projects

This year we are focusing our energies on Highway 19.  It is the part our community that most people see, and the bridge between North and South Citrus Avenue.  If Highway 19 looks good, we all look good!

We are working with artists to bring art and color to US Hwy 19 between Fancy's Pets and the Best Western

We are creating a tool to help communicate the "Big Picture Vision" of what the City will look like in the future.

In January we began work on the restoration of the Historic Pump-house beneath the water tower.

Spirit

Our first project was to install the Sailing vessel Spirit on the vacant lot at the corner of Citrus Avenue and Hwy 19.  This was a partnership between Duke Energy, the Crystal River Boat Builders (CRBB) and the Crystal River Main Street Design Committee.

Spirit is a replica of an 1864 Sailing Scow that was a blockade runner in our waters during the civil war.  The CRBB built her using the same methods that would have been used in the 1800's (that means no power tools!)

Now we have Spirit Corner instead of a vacant lot.  A recent survey of downtown business owners concluded that passers by are stoping to look at the boat, noticing our charming shops and restaurants and then going in to shop or have a bite.

In 2015 Crystal River City Council proclaimed Spirit to be the flagship of the City.
